Prophet ʿĪsā (Jesus) – عليه السلام
Prophet ʿĪsā ibn Maryam (Jesus, the son of Mary) عليه السلام is one of the most honored and beloved prophets in Islam. He was born into miraculous circumstances and sent as a messenger to the Children of Israel, carrying the message of Tawḥīd (Oneness of Allāh), righteousness, and mercy. His life, filled with divine signs, spiritual wisdom, and deep compassion, is mentioned throughout the Qur’ān — not only to honor him, but to clarify the truth about his mission, his nature, and his miraculous ascension.
✨ His Miraculous Birth
The story of ʿĪsā (عليه السلام) begins with his mother, Maryam (Mary) عليها السلام, a chaste, devout woman chosen by Allāh above all women of her time. “O Maryam, indeed Allāh has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of the worlds.” (Surah Āl ʿImrān 3:42). While she was in seclusion, the Angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) appeared to her in the form of a man and gave her glad tidings of a miraculous child. Shocked, she said, “How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?” (Surah Maryam 19:20). Jibrīl responded that it was a matter decreed by Allāh. Thus, by His command, Maryam conceived ʿĪsā without a father, a sign for humanity of Allāh’s unlimited power.
Maryam gave birth to ʿĪsā alone, under a palm tree, and Allāh comforted her with water and ripe dates. When she returned to her people with the newborn, they accused her of indecency. But Allāh made the infant ʿĪsā speak from the cradle, declaring:
“Indeed, I am the servant of Allāh. He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet.”
(Surah Maryam 19:30)
This first miracle silenced the accusations and announced the arrival of one of the greatest prophets.
🕊️ His Prophethood and Miracles
As ʿĪsā (عليه السلام) grew, Allāh granted him knowledge, wisdom, and the Injīl (Gospel) — a revelation confirming the truth of the previous scriptures and guiding his people back to the pure worship of Allāh. He preached with gentleness, healing hearts, and calling for spiritual revival. He reminded the Children of Israel to obey Allāh’s commandments, leave behind hypocrisy, and soften their hardened hearts.
Allāh honored ʿĪsā with numerous miracles, not as acts of divinity, but as signs from Allāh to confirm his prophethood. The Qur’ān says:
“And We gave ʿĪsā, the son of Maryam, clear proofs and supported him with the Holy Spirit.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87)
He healed the blind and the leper, revived the dead by Allāh’s permission, breathed life into a clay bird, and informed people of what they ate or stored — all to prove his truthfulness.
Despite these signs, many of his people rejected him. The powerful religious elite feared losing control and influence, and plotted to kill him. But Allāh had a greater plan.
🌤️ The Ascension and the Truth of His Nature
The Qur’ān clearly refutes the crucifixion of ʿĪsā. It states that he was not killed nor crucified, but it was made to appear so to them.
“They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to appear so. Rather, Allāh raised him up to Himself.”
(Surah An-Nisā’ 4:157–158)
In reality, Allāh saved ʿĪsā and raised him to the heavens, where he remains alive until the time comes for his return. This return is among the major signs of the Last Day — a truth confirmed in authentic hadith.
🤍 ʿĪsā’s Return Before the Day of Judgment
Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ said, “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the son of Maryam will surely descend among you as a just ruler...” (Bukhārī, Muslim). At the end of time, ʿĪsā will return to restore justice, break the cross, kill the false messiah (Dajjāl), and establish peace. He will rule by the Sharī‘ah of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, and after completing his mission, he will die a natural death and be buried on earth.
This return will affirm that ʿĪsā (عليه السلام) was never divine, never the son of Allāh — but a blessed and noble prophet, born without a father just as Ādam (عليه السلام) was born without parents. “Indeed, the example of ʿĪsā to Allāh is like that of Ādam — He created him from dust, then said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was.” (Surah Āl ʿImrān 3:59)
🌿 His Mission and Message
Prophet ʿĪsā (عليه السلام) preached love, mercy, humility, and truth — not blind rituals or corruption. He lived simply, renounced worldly luxury, and called for sincere submission to Allāh. He was not the founder of a new religion but a messenger of Islam, continuing the same message of Tawḥīd as all prophets before him. “Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.” (Surah Maryam 19:36)
He foretold the coming of the final messenger, Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, saying:
“O Children of Israel, I am the messenger of Allāh to you... giving glad tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Aḥmad.” (Surah Aṣ-Ṣaff 61:6)
🌟 Legacy of Prophet ʿĪsā (عليه السلام)
The life of Prophet ʿĪsā (عليه السلام) is a story of miracles, mercy, and monotheism. His piety, courage, and humility remain a light for the world. He was not a god, but a faithful servant of Allāh, a messenger to his people, and a sign of divine mercy. He is loved by Muslims with honor and reverence, not worshipped — for worship is due to Allāh alone.
