The 99 Names of Allah – With Meaning & Explanation

  1. ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ (Ar-Rahmān) – The Most Merciful
    Allah’s mercy is vast and all-encompassing. He shows mercy to all His creation, believers and disbelievers.

  2. ٱلرَّحِيمُ (Ar-Rahīm) – The Especially Merciful
    He shows extra mercy to the believers in this world and the Hereafter.

  3. ٱلْمَلِكُ (Al-Malik) – The King and Owner of Dominion
    He is the absolute sovereign and owner of all existence.

  4. ٱلْقُدُّوسُ (Al-Quddūs) – The Absolutely Pure
    Free from all deficiencies, faults, and imperfections.

  5. ٱلسَّلَامُ (As-Salām) – The Source of Peace and Safety
    He grants peace and safety to His creation.

  6. ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ (Al-Mu’min) – The Giver of Faith and Security
    He grants safety and security and affirms the truth.

  7. ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ (Al-Muhaymin) – The Guardian, The Witness, The Overseer
    He observes, protects, and controls all things.

  8. ٱلْعَزِيزُ (Al-ʿAzīz) – The Almighty
    Possessor of ultimate power and honor.

  9. ٱلْجَبَّارُ (Al-Jabbār) – The Compeller, The Restorer
    He mends the broken, enforces His will, and compels His creation.

  10. ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ (Al-Mutakabbir) – The Supreme, The Majestic
    He is above all His creation in greatness and majesty.

    He shapes His creation in the best form.

  4. ٱلْغَفَّارُ (Al-Ghaffār) – The Constant Forgiver
    He forgives again and again, no matter the sins.

  5. ٱلْقَهَّارُ (Al-Qahhār) – The All-Subduer
    Everything submits to His will; He is never overcome.

  6. ٱلْوَهَّابُ (Al-Wahhāb) – The Supreme Bestower
    He gives freely without expecting anything in return.

  7. ٱلرَّزَّاقُ (Ar-Razzāq) – The Provider
    He provides sustenance to all creatures.

  8. ٱلْفَتَّاحُ (Al-Fattāḥ) – The Supreme Opener
    He opens all doors of success, knowledge, and mercy.

  9. ٱلْعَلِيمُ (Al-ʿAlīm) – The All-Knowing
    He knows everything—past, present, future—seen and unseen.

  10. ٱلْقَابِضُ (Al-Qābiḍ) – The Withholder
    He withholds provision and souls with wisdom.

    He extends provision and mercy.

  2. ٱلْخَافِضُ (Al-Khāfiḍ) – The Abaser
    He lowers whomever He wills by His justice.

    He raises up whom He wills in rank.

  4. ٱلْمُعِزُّ (Al-Muʿizz) – The Honourer
    He grants honor and strength to whomever He wills.

  5. ٱلْمُذِلُّ (Al-Mudhill) – The Dishonourer
    He humiliates whom He wills.

  6. ٱلسَّمِيعُ (As-Samīʿ) – The All-Hearing
    He hears every sound and prayer.

  7. ٱلْبَصِيرُ (Al-Baṣīr) – The All-Seeing
    He sees everything, nothing escapes His sight.

  8. ٱلْحَكَمُ (Al-Ḥakam) – The Impartial Judge
    He judges with perfect justice and wisdom.

  9. ٱلْعَدْلُ (Al-ʿAdl) – The Utterly Just
    His justice is perfect; He never wrongs anyone.

  10. ٱللَّطِيفُ (Al-Laṭīf) – The Most Subtle, Kind
    He works in mysterious, gentle ways and is kind to His servants.

    Fully aware of inner and hidden matters.

    He is patient and does not punish quickly.

    His greatness surpasses all.

  4. ٱلْغَفُورُ (Al-Ghafūr) – The Great Forgiver
    He forgives extensively, no matter the size of the sin.

  5. ٱلشَّكُورُ (Ash-Shakūr) – The Most Appreciative
    He rewards even small acts of righteousness.

  6. ٱلْعَلِيُّ (Al-ʿAliyy) – The Most High, Exalted
    He is above all, in rank and authority.

  7. ٱلْكَبِيرُ (Al-Kabīr) – The Most Great
    Nothing is greater than Him in essence or attributes.

  8. ٱلْحَفِيظُ (Al-Ḥafīẓ) – The Preserver
    He preserves all creation and never forgets.

  9. ٱلْمُقِيتُ (Al-Muqīt) – The Sustainer
    He sustains and nourishes all creatures.

  10. ٱلْحسِيبُ (Al-Ḥasīb) – The Reckoner
    He suffices and will take full account on the Day of Judgement.

  5. ٱلْوَاسِعُ (Al-Wāsiʿ) – The All-Encompassing, the Boundless
    His mercy, knowledge, and power have no limits.

  6. ٱلْحَكِيمُ (Al-Ḥakīm) – The All-Wise
    Everything He does is full of wisdom.

  7. ٱلْوَدُودُ (Al-Wadūd) – The Most Loving
    He loves His servants and is most affectionate.

    He resurrects the dead and sends messengers.

      Allah is the ultimate reality; everything else is temporary.

    3. ٱلْقَوِيُ (Al-Qawwiyy) – The All-Strong
      His strength is limitless, needing no one.

    4. ٱلْمَتِينُ (Al-Matīn) – The Firm One
      He is stable, unwavering, and firm in His authority.

    5. ٱلْوَلِيُ (Al-Waliyy) – The Sole Provider of Protection
      He is the helper and guardian of the believers.

    6. ٱلْحَمِيدُ (Al-Ḥamīd) – The Praiseworthy
      He alone is worthy of all praise, eternally.

    7. ٱلْمُحْصِي (Al-Muḥṣī) – The All-Enumerating, The Counter
      He knows the number of everything in existence.

    8. ٱلْمُبْدِئُ (Al-Mubdiʾ) – The Originator, The Initiator
      He begins creation without any model.

    9. ٱلْمُعِيدُ (Al-Muʿīd) – The Restorer, The Reinstater
      He brings back the creation after death.

    10. ٱلْمُحْيِي (Al-Muḥyī) – The Giver of Life
      He gives life to the dead and to the hearts.

      He takes the soul at the end of life.

      Everything depends on Him while He depends on none.

    4. ٱلْوَاجِدُ (Al-Wājid) – The Perceiver
      He is never absent; nothing escapes Him.

    5. ٱلْمَاجِدُ (Al-Mājid) – The Glorious, the Most Honorable
      He is full of glory, excellence, and nobility.

    6. ٱلْواحِدُ (Al-Wāḥid) – The One
      He is singular in His essence and attributes.

    7. ٱلْأَحَدُ (Al-Aḥad) – The Indivisible, The Infinite
      He is absolutely unique, unlike any of His creation.

    8. ٱلصَّمَدُ (Aṣ-Ṣamad) – The Self-Sufficient, The Impregnable
      Everyone needs Him; He needs none.

    9. ٱلْقَادِرُ (Al-Qādir) – The Omnipotent
      He has power over all things, regardless of magnitude.

    10. ٱلْمُقْتَدِرُ (Al-Muqtadir) – The Creator of All Power
      His ability is flawless and complete.


    1. ٱلْمُقَدِّمُ (Al-Muqaddim) – The Expediter
      He brings forward whom He wills.

    2. ٱلْمُؤَخِّرُ (Al-Muʾakhkhir) – The Delayer
      He delays what He wills, with wisdom.

    3. ٱلأوَّلُ (Al-Awwal) – The First
      Nothing was before Him.

    4. ٱلْآخِرُ (Al-Ākhir) – The Last
      Nothing will be after Him.

    5. ٱلظَّاهِرُ (Aẓ-Ẓāhir) – The Manifest
      He is above all, apparent through signs and creation.

    6. ٱلْبَاطِنُ (Al-Bāṭin) – The Hidden One, Knower of the Hidden
      He is closer than we can imagine but cannot be seen.

    7. ٱلْوَالِي (Al-Wālī) – The Sole Governor
      He alone governs and administers all affairs.

    8. ٱلْمُتَعَالِي (Al-Mutaʿālī) – The Self Exalted
      Far above imperfection or limitation.

    9. ٱلْبَرُّ (Al-Barr) – The Source of All Goodness
      He is kind and gentle toward His servants.

    10. ٱلتَّوَابُ (At-Tawwāb) – The Ever-Accepter of Repentance
      He constantly accepts repentance and forgives.


    1. ٱلْمُنْتَقِمُ (Al-Muntaqim) – The Avenger
      He punishes wrongdoers after due warning.

    2. ٱلْعَفُوُ (Al-ʿAfūww) – The Supreme Pardoner
      He erases sins completely, leaving no trace.

    3. ٱلرَّؤُفُ (Ar-Raʾūf) – The Most Kind
      More compassionate than can be imagined.

    4. مَالِكُ ٱلْمُلْكِ (Mālik-ul-Mulk) – Master of the Kingdom, Owner of the Dominion
      He owns all realms—physical, spiritual, and beyond.

    5. ذُوالْجَلَالِ وَالإكْرَامِ (Dhū-l-Jalāli wa-l-Ikrām) – Lord of Glory and Honour, Lord of Majesty and Generosity
      Possessor of glory and nobility.

    6. ٱلْمُقْسِطُ (Al-Muqsiṭ) – The Just One
      He deals fairly with all creation.

    7. ٱلْجَامِعُ (Al-Jāmiʿ) – The Gatherer, the Uniter
      He gathers people, provisions, and hearts.

    8. ٱلْغَنيُ (Al-Ghaniyy) – The Self-Sufficient, The Wealthy
      Free of need, while all need Him.

    9. ٱلْمُغْنِيُ (Al-Mughnī) – The Enricher
      He grants wealth and sufficiency.

    10. ٱلْمَانِعُ (Al-Māniʿ) – The Withholder
      He withholds harmful things for a reason.


    1. ٱلضَّارَ (Aḍ-Ḍārr) – The Distresser
      He allows trials and tests when wise to do so.

    2. ٱلنَّافِعُ (An-Nāfiʿ) – The Propitious, the Benefactor
      He brings benefit to His creation.

    3. ٱلنُّورُ (An-Nūr) – The Light, The Illuminator
      He is the light of the heavens and earth.

    4. ٱلْهَادِي (Al-Hādī) – The Guide
      He guides hearts and minds to truth.

    5. ٱلْبَدِيعُ (Al-Badīʿ) – The Incomparable Originator
      He creates wonders without any pattern or copy.

    6. ٱلْبَاقِي (Al-Bāqī) – The Everlasting
      He remains forever, unchanged.

    7. ٱلْوَارِثُ (Al-Wārith) – The Inheritor, The Heir
      Everything will perish except Him; He will inherit all.

    8. ٱلرَّشِيدُ (Ar-Rashīd) – The Guide, Infallible Teacher, and Knower
      He guides rightly with clear knowledge.

    9. ٱلصَّبُورُ (Aṣ-Ṣabūr) – The Most Patient
      He does not rush to punish, but gives chances for repentance.

    Allah says in the Qur’an:

    “And to Allah belong the Best Names, so call upon Him by them…”
    (Surah Al-A'raf 7:180)
