Dua for Marriage – Seeking a Righteous Spouse & a Blessed Union

Marriage is a sacred bond and one of the most beloved acts in Islam. It’s a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and a means of tranquility and love when approached with sincerity and prayer.

🌸 1. Dua for Righteous Spouse

A beautiful Dua from the Qur’an asking Allah for a spouse and children who will be a joy to the heart.

🔹 Arabic:

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

🔹 Transliteration:

Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a‘yunin waj‘alna lil-muttaqina imama.

🔹 Translation:

“Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring the comfort of our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous.”
(Surah Al-Furqan 25:74)

Meaning:
This dua asks Allah for a righteous partner, children, and a household of taqwa (piety). It’s ideal for both the unmarried and the married.

💫 2. Dua Before Marriage Proposal or Decision (Istikharah)

When choosing a spouse or considering marriage, the Prophet ﷺ taught us to pray Salat al-Istikharah and make this supplication:

🔹 Arabic (short version from Hadith):

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ...

🔹 Transliteration (start only):

Allahumma inni astakheeruka bi ‘ilmika, wa astaqdiruka bi qudratika, wa as’aluka min fadlika al-‘azim…

📚 Source:
(Sahih al-Bukhari 1166)

Meaning:
A powerful dua asking Allah to guide you to the best decision, bless the outcome, and turn you away from harm.

🕌 3. Dua for a Blessed Marriage (Barakah in the Union)

After marriage, the Prophet ﷺ used to make this dua for the couple:

🔹 Arabic:

بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ، وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ

🔹 Transliteration:

BarakAllahu laka, wa baraka ‘alayka, wa jama‘a baynakuma fi khayr.

🔹 Translation:

“May Allah bless you, and send blessings upon you, and join you together in goodness.”

(Abu Dawood 2130, authenticated by Albani)

Usage:
Say it to newlyweds or for yourself to ask for barakah, unity, and goodness in the marriage.

🌷 4. Dua for Ease in Finding a Spouse

You can use this general Qur’anic supplication when asking Allah to make the path to marriage easy:

🔹 Arabic:

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

🔹 Transliteration:

Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqir.

🔹 Translation:

“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.”
(Surah Al-Qasas 28:24)

📚 Context:
Said by Prophet Musa (Moses) عليه السلام before Allah granted him a righteous spouse and shelter.

🌼 5. Personal Dua (In Your Own Words)

You can also make sincere, heartfelt Duas in your own language. For example:

“O Allah, bless me with a righteous, loving, and pious spouse who will help me grow closer to You, and grant us a marriage full of peace, love, and barakah.”

Note:
Your own duas, when made sincerely from the heart, are beloved to Allah.

🌟 Final Ayah to Reflect On

“And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you love and mercy...”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:21)
